the it crowd

Itcrowd Working in the basement, fires starting in the office, getting trapped under someone's desk, and having the toilet scrubbers get credit for your work. Sound familiar? If so, you'll definitely enjoy The IT Crowd.

This show is a new series on BBC staring two stereotypical IT workers and their boss who exaggerated about her computer experience on her resume. It's a British comedy, so it's full of dry, sarcastic humor as well as a bit of blood and slapstick.

Besides being a standard comedy show, there're a lot of parts geared only toward geeks and IT people. It's nice to know that someone out there understands a specific subculture enough to make a quality show without having to glamorize or exaggerate for popularity (Hello, Swordfish) and is willing to stick to the intended audience even though 90% of the people watching will have no clue that a certain scene was supposed to be funny. Or maybe it's just a new type of marketing and I've totally been bought by it. Either way, when there's a Boards of Canada poster hung subtly in the background, I'm all for it.

Since the show is on BBC, most people outside of the UK won't be able to watch it. I won't give specific links on where you can find the show, but doing some basic searches on digg and youtube will prove helpful. Take some time and watch an episode or two; once you get past the annoying laugh track, it's really a great show. I give it a 10/10.
